THE MOST IMPORTANT MEAL OF THE DAY- SPEECH 1

Today I am going to talk about something very important. I am going to talk about the most important meal of the day. What do you think the most important meal of the day is?
Hands up if you think its lunch?
Hands up if you think its dinner?
Hands up if you think its breakfast?

Well I’m here to tell you that it’s not any of those meals. The most important meal of the day is dessert. Dessert is not treated with the respect that it deserves and it is often overlooked. This is a problem that we urgently need to fix.
You have breakfast lunch and dinner every day don’t you? Why do you only have dessert a few times a week? That hardly seems fair. I am learning about social justice in class and that is just plain discrimination.
According to the dictionary dessert is a course that concludes a main meal and usually consists of sweet foods or beverages. Doesn’t every main meal deserve a conclusion? I think based on that definition we could introduce dessert after breakfast as well. Now that would get me out of bed in the morning.

So why should we have more dessert? Do I really even need to answer that question?
I will give you 10 good reasons…
Pavlova, cheese cake, ice cream, apple pie, chocolate custard, pudding, jelly, mouse, profiteroles and absolutely anything that involves salted caramel. Mmmmm mmmmmm

XXXXXX is a very good school and sets very high standards however there is one area in which it is lacking. DESSERTS. All we have on offer in the school canteen is vanilla ice cream. I think we can do a lot better than that. We are not going to inspire future dessert chefs with this selection. We are not going to capture anyone’s imagination, we are not going to have our school canteen achieve 4 chef hats unless we make a change. BRING ON DESSERT

Now I can just imagine some parents saying what about all that sugar?
Some desserts have fruit, dairy and eggs in them. Not all desserts are pure sugar.
Also think of all the people whose jobs would be at risk without desserts. The toothpaste makers, the dentists, large sections of the supermarket would be bare. We can’t have that.
If we sold a wide range of desserts at the school canteen we would never need to fundraise again because the canteen would make so much money. The P & F could take a well-earned break.
Children would be very active learners and no one would fall asleep in class. Everyone would be in a good mood and we would be a lot sweeter all around. What is not to like?

Today you have heard why desert is so important and lets face it DELICIOUS.
Please help me to make sure that dessert gets the respect it deserves. Do not overlook dessert. It is where imagination meets reality. I only ask that it has equality with the other meals of the day. And together we can all help to make the world a sweeter place.

SPEECH 2 SHOELACES

Good morning teachers and students. Today I need to discuss a problem with you. The problem I am talking about is shoe laces. Now they might look innocent. They may even look harmless BUT DO NOT be fooled. These things are pure evil.
I like many kindergarten kids spent my whole kindergarten life pestering my mother for shoes with shoe laces. Silly I know, but I thought that shoes with shoe laces would mean that I had grown up. That I had made it to the big time. THAT I WAS SUPER COOL. I was so wrong.
When I finally mastered the art of tying my own shoe laces mum brought me a pair of shoes with laces and it was downhill from there.
I called my new shoes playtime stoppers. Tess your shoe lace is undone. Tess stop now and do up your shoe lace. Tess if you don’t do up that lace you are going to fall over. Tess undo your laces before you try and put your shoe on.
Do you see my problem? I have so many important games to play and things to do and I always get stopped because of shoe laces.
Kindy kids I warn you now shoe laces are not all they are cracked up to be. Don’t be fooled. Stick with your buckles and pull on boots. Today we have other options there is Velcro and buckles and even bare feet. Why on earth would any one choose shoe laces?
Teachers I am sure you agree you must spend half of your lunch time doing up laces. They are also dangerous because you can trip over them. They always snap at the wrong time and THERE IS JUST NO POINT. WIKIPEDIA does not even know who invented shoe laces because nobody wants to put their name to them.
The shoe lace makers know all of this and so they make shoe laces in pretty colors or perhaps they sparkle. Do not be fooled you will spend way too much time bent over doing them up again and again. It is just not worth it.
So fellow students be warned there is nothing good about shoelaces. Kindy kids you have been warned.
Thank you.

PROCRASTINATION - SPEECH 3

·      Today I am going to talk about a very important skill. One that comes in useful time and time again.
·      I think it is something that you get better at with practice.
·      I am talking about procrastination and my mum says that I am a master at it, so I am here to share what I know with you.
·      I did not know what mum meant at first when she called me a master procrastinator but now I know.
·      Procrastination is the art of avoiding what you should be doing and doing something else.
·      For example on school days in the morning I should be eating breakfast, getting dressed and packing my bag.
·      BORING am I right???
·      I can find so many more interesting things to do without even really trying.
·       I watch TV pat the dog, annoy my brother – all much more interesting things to be doing in the morning, you see what I mean?
·      There are a few tips I can give you as a master procrastinator.
·      The first one is to go into stealth mode and don’t get caught doing whatever it is you are doing to avoid doing what you should be doing are you with me?
·       Make sure that what you have chosen to do is not annoying. For example playing loud music. This could draw unwanted parent attention and put a quick end to your procrastination.
·      The other tip I give you is to make the activity you have chosen sound every bit as important as what you should be doing.
·       Lets pretend my name is Mary Ann. Mary Anne are you doing your homework?? I am just organising my desk mum so I can concentrate on my work.
·       Hard for any parent to argue with that right? In the meantime you could finish reading the good book you left on your desk so that it is ready to be put away.
·      Procrastination in the classroom situation is a bit more tricky but not impossible.
·       Of course there is always going to the toilet or sharpening your pencil to delay starting your work.
·      You can also put your hand up to do jobs for the teacher that works well. Talking to your friends is always much more fun though there is some risk involved in that in the classroom.
·      You must never ever walk back from lunch, the office or the toilet quickly. Take your time if you are returning to class for a subject you do not like.

·      You can also always ask the teacher to run through their example to a question again to help delay the work that you know is coming your way.
·      So you see with a bit of careful thinking procrastination is possible in the classroom.
·      I think that some of you here today might be good at procrastination. (##nose tap##)
·       I know that I am missing out on double maths this morning. I am sure I will need to know about fractions someday- but not today.
·      I have shared my knowledge with you today. I look forward to hearing your speeches and readings today because there is no point in racing back to school now is there.
