1) TIP 1 - Involve your child Now this might seem obvious however to a time poor parent it can be tempting to write the speech for your child or find one already written. The level of parental involvement depends on many things such as the age of a child, school requirements, parental ability etc. Both of my children were expected to present speeches in kindergarten and lets face it most kindergarten kids are not able to put a speech together without significant assistance. They can certainly contribute with the topic, content ideas and presentation. Once my children were a bit older I would help them to bounce around ideas, perhaps based on their interest or personality (both my kids love making others laugh). They would then complete a draft to which I would offer suggestions. I believe your child will learn more through participation in the speech writing process rather than having it completed for them. THE MOST IMPORTANT MEAL OF THE DAY - SPEECH 1 Today I am going to talk about something very important. I am going to talk about the most important meal of the day. What do you think the most important meal of the day is? Hands up if you think its lunch? Hands up if you think its dinner? Hands up if you think its breakfast? Well I’m here to tell you that it’s not any of those meals. The most important meal of the day is dessert. Dessert is not treated with the respect that it deserves and it is often overlooked. This is a problem that we urgently need to fix. You have breakfast lunch and dinner every day don’t you? Why do you only have dessert a few times a week? That hardly seems fair. I am learning about social justice in class and that is just plain discrimination. It can't be that time of year again. GROAN!!! You can feel the tightness in your chest and a sick feeling emerges in the pit of your stomach. It is time to help your child prepare for delivery of a speech at school. This blog is HERE TO HELP. You will be able to pick up some tips and have a look at some of the speeches we have prepared. Who are we? My name is Chris and I am the mother of 1 primary and 1 high school aged child. Let me put it out there, I am a shy introvert and public speaking remains my worst nightmare. I desperately hoped that my children would not share this debilitating fear and always encouraged them and helped them with their preparation for school speeches. And yes readers this has paid off. My children have won a number of awards for their speeches and become confident in their abilities.
